Photo retouching is the art of enhancing, softening, or removing unwanted items in a photograph while maintaining its true form.  Quite often we are asked to remove things from an image, so the composition of the piece does not contain distracting items that take away from the image's true meaning.  Retouching of a photo can make it more clear and crisp, and help bring out small details that would have otherwise been lost.

 

It too has become an acquired art.  Much like photo restoration techniques, photo retouching requires meticulous care, concentration, and lots of patience to painstakingly edit an image.  But your and our investment is well worth the price, because in the end we have a composition that is better than before, more pleasing to the eye of the beholder, and provides us both great satisfaction.

When printing large format books onto photographic paper, such as 16x20 (almost three feet across), the detail at which it will be viewed is difficult to imagine.  What may look like a small distraction in the image in reality will be presented like a billboard and viewed as such. When viewing photography, people are not as forgiving and will gladly put on their glasses to give an image not just a once over, but often twice and more!  Just like photo restoration, photo retouching cannot be rushed, and must be given the appropriate time necessary for optimum viewing enjoyment.

 

We normally charge a flat rate for minor and complex retouching, knowing that "on the average" most projects will have more minor retouching requirements than complex, and the tedious time spent will be balanced.  But when we are brought a project that features more "complex" retouching than "minor", the images must be viewed prior to rates being discussed and time estimates for completion.
